SHREWSBURY- Barbara Adams Bowen, 56, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully, April 4, 2015 with her loving daughter at her side, after a long illness.
She was the daughter of the late E. Stephen and Barbara Adams. She grew up in and was educated in Shrewsbury and was a 1976 graduate of Shrewsbury High School. From there she went on to get her BA from Worcester State College and then her Master Degree in Social Work from UCONN. This started her career in counseling which was her passion for 25+ years. Barbara’s primary employer during that time was Boston Post Road Clinic where she helped many people through the years frequently offering her services to people with limited resources and tremendous need.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Amanda Butterworth, of Wilmington NC, her boyfriend Sohail Arif, her sister Susan Hannan and her husband Rick, of Boca Raton FL, her brother Stephen and his wife Laura, of North Oxford, and her closest friend who was like another sister to her, Lisa Pearl. In addition, she has many close aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and especially friends that will miss her greatly.

Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Jewish Hospice Care for their loving care and compassion shown to Barbara and her family over the past few years.

Relative and friends are invited to visit with Barbara’s family on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 5:00-8:00PM PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00AM in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, NY, NY 10018.
