Bertha (Benham) Choi passed away Monday, September 21, 2015, in Worcester, MA, following a struggle with breast cancer.
She was79 years old.


Bertha, originally from Gladewater, Texas, was the middle of 11 children. She graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas, TX, and the Parkland Hospital for Nurses Training as a Registered Nurse, working initially in the emergency room.


Bertha met and married Dallas Theological Seminary student Oong Choi in 1959. They settled in Lancaster, PA to raise their family, where Oong had completed his undergraduate studies at Franklin and Marshall College. Bertha's caring nature was evident when she returned to her nursing career, once their children were in school as she chose to work in geriatric nursing at the Long Home in Lancaster. She continued to be fully dedicated to her family and church activities. For the past 10 years, she and Oong have been members of Harvest Bible Church in Lancaster.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Elmer Benham and Frances (Snavely) Benham, her brother, Bernard Benham, her sister, Gwendolyn Landa, and her son‐in-law, Henry Bartlett. She is survived by her husband Oong Choi; daughter, Deborah Choi Bartlett, daughter, Mary Choi Smith and husband, Randall Smith, son, Jonathan Choi and wife, Ann Sheehy; three grandsons; and eight of her siblings, Roberta Bannister, Sarah Farr, Flora Benham, Elizabeth O’Dell, Patsy Benham, Frances Benham, Max Benham, Dean Benham, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bertha’s family on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 9:30-10:30 AM in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A service honoring her life will begin at 11 AM, followed by burial in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
