Obituary for Paul E. Daigneault

On July 22, 2016 at 2:00 am, Paul Everett Daigneault, 76 found his place with God. He took his last breath in the arms of his loving family in his home on Waterman Road, Auburn, Massachusetts.

He leaves behind several family members who loved him and cared for him up until the moment he died. His life-partner, Gabriel Sumner, 75 originally from Vermont, has loved him and cared for him for over a decade. They first met when they were eleven, went on their own ways, and lived their separate lives. Many years later, they met again, fell instantly in love, and were inseparable ever since. They did everything together, and she held his hand as he left this earth.

Paul also leaves behind several wonderful children. He will be missed by Mark and his wife Kirsten, Paul and his wife Ann-Marie, and his daughter Carole. He likewise leaves behind Gabriel’s five loving children: Jackie, Larry, Terry, Sherry, and Caroline. All of this love gave him nineteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Paul is predeceased by his wife Carole (Hosegood). They also shared a love like no other. She provided Paul with a loving home for most of his life, brought up their children, and supported and loved him through their best and worst of times.

Paul was an incredibly generous person. He did not have a selfish bone in his body. Whenever anyone needed something, if Paul had it, that person would receive it. His giving knew no bounds. Paul also had a lot of loves. He loved to eat. If he could find a restaurant, even a dive, with great food, he was there. In addition, he loved talk to people and tell stories. He was truly interested in what people had to say. He would talk until three in the morning if someone would let him. During the last few months of his life, all he wanted to do was listen to and tell stories. It was as though he was reliving his childhood over and over again.

Most importantly, he loved to be with his family. Family was everything to Paul. He did not care about material objects; they meant nothing to him. He would rather have spent a week with his grandkids. When his kids came over to see him, his face would light up, and he would smile a smile that made him seem as though he was glowing from within.

Paul fought a valiant fight for over six years. He dealt with unimaginable pain that would not go away. Finally, God decided he had suffered long enough and called Paul Home.

Please join us on Tuesday July 26, 2016 from 5-8 pm in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St Auburn as we remember the life of this most beautiful man. A prayer service will be on Wednesday July 27, 2016 at 11 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial donations can be made to Jewish Healthcare Hospice, 629 Salisbury St, Worcester, MA 01609.
