Obituary for Joanne F Stearns (Fanelli)
Joanne F. (Fanelli) Stearns, 78, of Millbury formerly of Auburn died Monday July 10, 2017 with her family by her side.
Joanne was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Frank and Rose R. (Scricco) Fanelli. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1956. She met her true love, Alan Stearns in High School and waited for him to return back home from his military service before they married in 1959 and settled in Auburn in 1966 to raise their family. They moved to Millbury two years ago.
Joanne had worked as a Manager for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Environmental Police Office for over fifteen years before she retired in 2001.
Joanne enjoyed playing Bingo, bowling, playing Solitaire and Samba, but her most enjoyment was watching her favorite sports team, the Red Sox, with her beloved husband.
She leaves her husband and best friend of 57 years, Alan L. Stearns Sr., two sons, Jeffrey F. Stearns and his wife Colleen of Spencer and Alan L. Stearns, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Oxford; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Kaitlyn Phelan and her husband Daniel, Brett, Tyler and Troy; a sister, Frances Wyman and her husband William of Shrewsbury; also survived by her niece Suzanne Froio and husband Frank, nephew Stephen Wyman and wife Margaret and other nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Joanne’s family on Friday July 14, 2017 from 8:30-10:30 am in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A funeral Mass will follow and be celebrated at 11:00 am in Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. In lieu of flowers please make a charitable contribution to: ALS Family Charitable Foundation, Inc.,1 Trowbridge Rd, Suite 325 Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
