Alberta M. "Bert"  McWilliams (Daniels)
“To a Life Well-Lived”
Alberta M. (Daniels) McWilliams, 101, died on Monday evening, November 6, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones.

“Bert” was born on Oct. 6, 1916, one of ten children of Treffle “Pete” and Phebe (Auger) Daniels. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1934. She later worked as a domestic in Boston before returning to Fitchburg to work at Cluet-Peabody, “The Shirt Shop” in Leominster. Bert later married her husband, Jack, and together they raised six sons in Fitchburg.

As many women of her era, Bert was an accomplished and adventurous cook, baker, seamstress, and homemaker. She will fondly be remembered for her Friday night pizzas and her decorated cakes for special occasions. Besides raising her own family, she was foster mother for Catholic Social Services to dozens of infants, loving and nurturing them prior to adoption.

After retiring, Jack and Bert enjoyed road trips and vacations with her sisters and their husbands. When Jack died Bert lived happily for many years with her sister Irene on Cape Cod and continued traveling with her sisters. She later relocated to the Manor on the Hill in Leominster where she received loving and attentive care for thirteen years.

Bert is survived by her sons, Jack & his wife Helen of Fitchburg, Jim & his wife Carol of Shrewsbury, Stephen and his family of Florida, Mark of Fort Lauderdale, FL, her daughter-in-law, Joan McWilliams of Fitchburg, a sister Dorothy Manceau of Townsend MA, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack in 1986, her sons Kevin in 2001, and Terrance in 2013, and her siblings Eddy, Leo and Bobby Daniels, Flora Atkinson, Irene Thibodeau, Beatrice Maloney, Pauline Keaveny.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 with a Mass of Resurrection in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., N. Leominster at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday, November 10 from 4-7 pm in the Smith- Mallahy- Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg. Donations may be made in Alberta’s name to Manor on the Hill Residents Activity Fund, 455 N. Main St., Leominster, MA. 01453
