Obituary for Shirley M Kimball

Shirley M. Kimball, age 91 of Shrewsbury, MA and Saco, ME, a retired schoolteacher, died peacefully at home, January 9, 2018, after an illness. In her final hours she was surrounded by her loving family.

She leaves her husband and soulmate Ralph P. Kimball, whom she loved deeply and with whom she was happily married for nearly 70 years, sons Kevin M. Kimball of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Brian R. Kimball and his wife Laura of Shrewsbury, Neal F.X. Kimball of Shrewsbury and grandchildren Matthew & Jonathan Kimball and Amanda Rose Kimball, all of Shrewsbury. A son, Terry J. Kimball, died in 1972.

She was the daughter of late John E. and Margaret M. (MacMullen) Martin of Shrewsbury and lived in Shrewsbury all of her life. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School, Becker College and Worcester State College. In both colleges, as well as in high school, she was editor of school papers. She also attended Assumption College.

She taught at Fanning School of Health in the Medical Assistant program for many years and previously was a legal secretary. She was a member of adjunct faculty at Quinsigamond Community College for several years. At one time, she was employed as a reporter for the Worcester Telegram and later wrote several travel articles for publication as a free-lance writer. Mrs. Kimball was a CCD teacher at St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury for many years and was its Director for 3 years. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for several years and was president of the Coolidge PTA for two terms during which she was active in bringing about the addition of the Coolidge School cafetorium as well as many upgrades in school cafeteria services to the students.

She was a member of the Shrewsbury Woman’s Club, the Active Older Adults at the Greendale YMCA, the AARP and the Shrewsbury Senior Friends. She was also Secretary for the Shrewsbury Historical Society for several years.

Funeral services for Shirley will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury is assisting the family with arrangements.
