Johanna  Lewis (Coyle)
Johanna (Coyle) Lewis, 73, devoted educator and longtime Shrewsbury resident died peacefully Friday July 27, 2018 in her home.

Johanna was born and raised in Pittsfield, daughter of the late John and Bernice Veronica (Farrell) Coyle. She graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Pittsfield and continued her love of learning at Fitchburg State College, graduating with a degree in Education. Johanna was a dedicated teacher of Special Education in the Worcester Public School for many years before she retired.

Her beloved husband of 50 years, Richard E. Lewis, predeceased her last year. She leaves a loving son, Jeffrey Lewis of Newton, a devoted daughter, Darryl Vigliatura and her husband James of Rutland; two adoring grandchildren, Olivia and Jeffrey Vigliatura of Rutland, who brought her happiness every day; a sister, Beatrice Lumma of Indiana; two brothers, Mark Coyle and his wife Mary of Sopchoppy, Florida and Jay Coyle of Pittsfield; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, John Coyle, Thomas Coyle, Jerome Coyle and a sister, Charlotte Gantt.

Johanna was a person that enjoyed a heartfelt laugh and will be missed dearly by her many treasured family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Johanna’s family on Monday July 30, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral will on Tuesday July 31, 2018 with a funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St, Shrewsbury. Burial will be held privately next to her husband in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury at a later date. Johanna’s family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, (www.diabetes.org) or to a charity of one’s choice.
