Obituary for Lorraine M Cantwell (Lavallee)

Lorraine M. (Lavallee) Cantwell, 80, of Auburn died peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2018 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus with family at her side. She was the wife of the late Walter J. Cantwell, III.

Born, in Worcester, Lorraine was raised and educated in Millbury, the daughter of the late Edward T. and Loretta M. (Dumas) Lavallee, Lorraine graduated from Millbury High School in 1956. She received an Associate’s Degree in nursing and shortly thereafter began working as an LPN which she continued until 1963, at which time she chose to stay at home to raise her family. As her family became more independent, Lorraine decided to return to work as a teacher’s aide. For some 25 years she found a great deal of pleasure spending time in the classrooms with the children. For the 15 years leading to her retirement, she enjoyed working at the Mary D. Stone School in Auburn.

Shortly after marriage to the love of her life, Walter J. Cantwell, III, the two moved to Auburn and spent more than 50 years in Auburn and were very involved in their community. When her children were younger Lorraine and her family often vacationed in Westerly RI and Mystic Connecticut where they enjoyed the beaches. One of her granddaughter’s fondest memories was when her grandmother came with her to Disney World and Sea World in Orlando. She was an avid reader who started a new book as soon as she finished the one she was reading. Lorraine remained very close to her parents for her entire life. For most of the 50 years of her marriage Sunday dinner included her parents as well as her own family.

In her free time Lorraine was often found herself helping others and most of all loved to spend time at home with her family.

Lorraine is survived by her sons Bruce E. Cantwell and his wife Sheila of Merrimack, NH, and Brian P. Cantwell of Worcester; grandchildren Melissa Turcotte, Jessica Sampson, Ashley Cantwell; great grandchildren, Logan Potter, Lennox Potter, Grace Sampson; and one cousin Jerry Melanson.

Date and time of a Funeral Service for Lorraine will be made available at a later date.
