Obituary for Leonora P. Yankus (Sebastyn)

Leonora P. (Sebastyn) Yankus, 82, of Shrewsbury died Friday, November 1, 2013 in Knollwood Nursing Center after an illness.

Her husband of 62 years, Vito W. “Bill” Yankus died in 2011. She leaves her children, Deborah J. Roy and her husband, Guy of Rochdale, Gary W. Yankus and his wife, Shirley of Charlton and William L. Yankus of Farmington, CT; five grandchildren, Kendra Daub and her husband, Scott of PA, Guy Roy and his wife, Heather of PA, Benjamin Yankus of Charlton, William and Joseph Yankus of Farmington, CT; four great grandchildren, Kelsie, Karlee, Katie and Brandon; and a brother.

Leonora was born in Boston, daughter of the late B. Thomas and Jennie (Morawski) Sebastyn. Her parents moved the family out of the City of Boston to Shrewsbury where she attended the Shrewsbury Schools and later graduated from Worcester Evening High School in 1956.

She worked for over 10 years as a candymaker for Hebert’s Candy Mansion in Shrewsbury.

Leonora loved being surrounded by family and friends and was always the perfect hostess with when she was entertaining. Her claim to fame in the family was being the family photographer. She always made sure that she was in the right place at the right time to capture all the wonderful family moments. Leonora enjoyed traveling to Pennsylvania to visit family and her second favorite chocolate factory, Hershey.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Leonora’s family on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 4-7 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral will be from the funeral home on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 with a funeral Mass at 12 NOON in Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St. Shrewsbury. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Donations can be made to the Jimmy Fund, 44 Binney St, Boston, MA 02115 (www.jimmyfund.org).
