Obituary for Paul I Mongeon

Paul I. Mongeon, 77, of Shrewsbury died Thursday, April 7, 2016 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center-University Campus after being stricken ill at home.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late Ralph K. and Aino (Aalto) Mongeon. He graduated from South High School. He served with the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Gordon in Georgia where he met the love of his life, Betty J. Tucker. They married in 1959 in South Carolina and moved to Massachusetts to start their family.

Paul had worked as a machinist for Norton Company for over 25 years until he retired.

He was a charter member of the Weary Traveler’s Club and the Worcester Surf Caster’s Club both in Bourne, MA. He also was a 50 year member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge in Worcester and a member of the Scottish Rites.

Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at the Canal in Bourne and making custom surfcasting rods. His happiest moments were spent with his family at the cape and his beloved family members in Metta, Georgia.

He leaves his beloved wife, Betty J. (Tucker) Mongeon; three children, Cynthia J. Longval and her husband, Andre, Georgia J. Mongeon and her partner, Scott Mardirosian and Paul K. Mongeon and his partner, Karen Haig all of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Thomas P. Longval and his wife, Lindsay, Daniel T. Burke, Brendan M. Burke, Tyler M. Mongeon and Makenna A. Mongeon; four great grandchildren, Brody, Blake, Addison and Delaney; also survived by many nieces and nephews.


Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Paul’s family on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 6-8 PM in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St, Shrewsbury. A funeral service celebrating his life will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 Greenwood Street, Worcester. Burial with military honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
