Obituary for William B. "Bill" Murphy

AUBURN-William B. “Bill” Murphy, 66, of Auburn, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 19, 2016.

Bill was born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, son of the late Walter W. and Jane E. (Kosciak) Murphy. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1967 where he excelled in Football and was a member of the Yearbook Staff. . Bill then continued his education at the University of Massachusetts graduating with the class of 1971.

Bill recently retired from the Department of Employment Security for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a policy manager, a position he held for 40 years.

Bill leaves, a brother, Dennis P. and his wife Charleen Murphy of Auburn, a sister, Cynthia J. Craig and her husband Galen of Methuen, his twin brother Walter K. Murphy; two nephews, Michael T. Murphy and his wife Katrine and Sean P. Murphy and his wife Erin; a niece, Bridget T. Murphy and a great nephew, Denis Murphy.

Bill was a passionate New England sports fan. When he was not watching sports he was out enjoying a round of golf with friends. He also enjoyed fly fishing, archery, reading, music, and photography in his spare time.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bill’s family on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 11AM -12PM in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A prayer service celebrating Bill’s life will begin at 12 NOON. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
