Obituary for Derek A Day

Derek A  Day
Derek A. Day, 37, of Athol formerly of Auburn died Friday, September 16, 2016 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center after being stricken ill at home.

He was born in Stoneham, MA and raised in Hamilton, MA son of Fredrick Day and Esther (Lesiak) Gentile. Derek graduated from Hamilton Wenham Regional High School in 1997 and Gordon College in 2000 with a B.S. Degree in Computer Sciences.

He leaves his loving wife of 14 years, Rebecca M. (Pendleton) Day; three adoring children, Sarah M. Day, Nathan A. Day and Anna G. Day all of Athol; his parents, Frederick Day and his wife, Astrid of Gloucester his mother, Esther Gentile of Exeter, NH two brothers, Timothy Day and his wife Cheryl of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Stephen Day of Amesbury, MA; a sister, Jennifer Day of Beverly; his maternal grandmother, Violet Lesiak of Ludlow; two nieces, a nephew and many wonderful friends.

Derek had worked as a Developer of Internal Applications for Inter Systems in Cambridge for the past eleven years. Derek was also a true family man with such true ties to his faith and church. He was a Sunday school teacher at Faith Church in Auburn where he brought bible stories to life for the children he was teaching each week. He also sang in the churches choir when he was able and was a member of AWANA.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Derek’s family on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4-7 PM in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be celebrated on Friday September 23, 2016 at 10 am in Faith Church, 22 Faith Avenue, Auburn. Burial will be private in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
