Adele  Smith (Guinee)
Adele Smith, matriarch of a large and loving family, died peacefully on Monday, September 19th.

Born in Somerville, MA in 1923, she was the daughter of John and Gertrude (Cassidy) Guinee. She graduated from Emmanuel College in 1945. Adele spent 55 years in Auburn raising her family before moving to Charlton in 2008. Adele was the office manager of the Auburn Water District for many years; however, she dedicated her life to raising her children.

Adele was the devoted mother of seven children. She was cherished by her loving husband of 71 years, Matthew E. Smith. Adele is also survived by her sons, Daniel and his wife Nancy of Auburn, and Stephen of Pensacola, Florida; daughters Carolyn Smith of Little Hocking, Ohio, Melinda Hannan, wife of Kenneth of Charlton, Susan Smith-Scott, wife of Gene Scott of Charlton, Judith Maruca, wife of Francis of Charlton, daughter-in-law Wanda Whitted-Smith of Philadelphia, and brother John Guinee, of Virginia. She was predeceased by her son David Smith and brother David Guinee. She was adored by her grandchildren Courtney, Sage, Luke, Chloe, Timothy, Allison, Christopher, Michael, Jacob, Lindsey and Tyler and her great grandchildren Jesse, Joseph, Declan, Adele, Connor, Dalila and Camille. She treasured the friendships she made during the 25 winters she spent in Marco Island, Florida.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Adele’s family on Thursday, September 22 from 4 to 7 pm at St. Joseph Church, H. Putnam Road, Charlton. Adele’s life will be celebrated at a Mass of Christian burial on Friday, September 23rd at 11 a.m. at St Joseph’s Church in Charlton. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
