AUBURN- Joseph Armand Favreau passed away at his home in Auburn, surrounded by his family, on October 3, 2016, after a long illness.

Born in Worcester on April 7, 1928 to Francis and Rose (Charbonneau) Favreau, who emigrated from Canada, Armand lived in Auburn for 56 years with his wife Anna (Mihaliak) Favreau, whom he married in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army 1955–57 as a carpenter and informal translator at the base in the resort town of La Baule, France, a posting on which Anna accompanied him.

Armand belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 4, for 50 years. He worked on construction projects including the Central Artery/Tunnel Project, Seabrook Nuclear Station, and UMass Medical Center. In his long career, he served as a master mechanic and self-taught operator of large construction equipment. In his spare time, he enjoyed building stone walls, often with his brother, a craft he learned from his grandfather and passed on to his son and nephews. In retirement, he loved to spend time at the cottage he built himself in northern Vermont, tapping his maple trees and making and selling syrup, cutting down trees, and hosting visitors. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Auburn.

Besides his wife Anna, Armand is survived by: his daughter Deborah A. Favreau and her husband, Daniel Penrice, of Cambridge; his son James A. Favreau of Worcester; his beloved granddaughters Maria and Louisa Penrice of Cambridge; his two sisters, Cecile Misiuk and Rita Boulanger, both of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, the late J. Gerard Favreau of Leicester.

A calling hour will be from 9:30-10:30 am on Friday, October 7, 2016, at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 198 Oxford St. N, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
