Obituary for Dorothy E. Tivnan

SHREWSBURY- Dorothy E. (Hall) Tivnan, 87, longtime Shrewsbury resident died in her home on Saturday, January 21, 2017.

Her husband of 61 years, Paul J. Tivnan died April 10, 2016. She leaves six children; Patricia Tivnan Testarmata and her husband John, Elizabeth Tivnan, Susan M. Boutot and her husband Paul, Paul A. Tivnan and his wife Patrice, Stephen Tivnan and Christina Tivnan; six grandchildren; Amy Becker Seed, Audra E. Becker, Maegan Boutot, Katie Boutot, Brian Coache and Andrew Coache; three great-grandchildren; Olivia and Andrew Seed and Bridgette Becker, a sister Marjorie Kelly of MN and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by siblings John Hall, Barbara Ellis and Norman Hall.

Dorothy was born in Worcester, daughter of Norman and Mary Hall. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School, Sargent College at Boston University and received her Master’s degree in Education from Worcester State College. She was a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools for many years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, the Audubon Society, Sargent College Alumni Association, MTA and the EAW. She enjoyed traveling and spending summers on Cape Cod.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dorothy’s family on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral will be on Friday, January 27, 2017 with a Mass celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
