Obituary for Herbert W. Sparhawk

Herbert W. Sparhawk, 94, lifelong resident of Auburn died in his home on Tuesday January 24, 2017.

His wife of 62 years, Lillian (Dawbin) Sparhawk died in 2012. He leaves behind a daughter, Paula Burton and her husband John of Oxford, a son, Steve Sparhawk and his wife Lisa of Port Angeles, WA; five grandchildren, Wendy Keenan and her husband Bryan, Michael Burton and his wife Angela, Robert Sparhawk, Jayden Sparhawk and Angelo Restaino; three great grandchildren, Alyssa Keenan, Alanna Burton and Audrey Burton; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was predeceased by a son, Robert Sparhawk, three brothers and two sisters: Charles, LeRoy, Clayton, Barbara, and Carole.

Herbert was born and raised in Auburn, son of the late Charles and Mabel (Kenyon) Sparhawk. He attended Auburn High School and then entered into the United States Navy proudly serving during WWII as a gunners mate aboard the destroyer USS Healy. He worked as a service representative for W.M. Steele Company of Worcester for over 40 years before he retired.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and RV camping; traveling across the country on various trips with his wife and family. He was a fishing enthusiast, being a member of the Auburn Sportsman club for most of his life, and was a fan of various sports especially auto racing at tracks throughout the east coast.

Per Herbert’s request funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
