Suzanne D. Smiley of Sturbridge, MA passed away at her home on Thursday, April 20th.
She is survived by family members, her mother, Anne Smiley of Sturbridge; a sister, Kimberly Smiley of Newport, R.I.; her father, Air Force Colonel (retired) Kenneth S. Smiley and his wife Barbara of Harwood, Maryland as well as her close friend and business partner Sandro DiDonato of Charlton, MA; ex-husband, Joseph Sacco of Jamestown, R.I.; a stepson, Alex Sacco of Spencer, MA; and a granddaughter, Violet Sacco of Sturbridge, MA.

A native of Texas, she was the youngest child of an Air Force family that was stationed at numerous bases across the country to finally settle her in the Northeast at Hanscom AFB. Suzanne was a graduate of Bedford High School, earned a B.S in Business Administration/Finance at Nichols College, and completed her education with an MBA from Assumption College.

Her career spanned nearly 30 years in the banking industry starting with a position as Branch Manager and culminating with the title of Senior Vice President of a local commercial bank. In 2009, in addition to her banking responsibilities, she expanded her horizons by partnering with Mr. DiDonato to create S&S Contractor’s Supply, based in Auburn, MA where she held the positions of President and CEO.

Outside of work her community involvement included helping organize the Annual Worcester Red Cross golf tournament, she was also a past president of the Sturbridge Rotary Club where she was recognized for her generous support by receiving the Paul Harris Fellow award. Suzanne was a member of the Sturbridge Finance Committee and was acting president of the Sturbridge Hills Condo Association.

Her recreational activities included sailing Narragansett Bay on her boat the Sirena, golfing, gourmet cooking, antique shopping and she was an avid trap shooter. She leaves behind many friends and acquaintances whose lives she touched.

Her advice on having a happy life: “have a short memory”. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Memorial calling hours will be on Thursday May 11, 2017 from 4:00-7:00PM at Britton-Wallace Funeral Home 91 Central St, Auburn, MA The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Suzanne’s name to The Epilepsy Foundation of New England 335 Main St, Unit 8, Wilmington, MA 01887.
