Edward J. Eckland, 88 of South Yarmouth died Friday February 2, 2018 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a short illness.

He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Eckland for 64 years.

Born in Milford, he was raised and educated in Worcester. Mr. Eckland was the son of the late William and Eileen (Ahearn) Eckland. He was a graduate of Worcester High School of Commerce in 1947 and earned an Associate degree from Becker Junior College.

Mr. Eckland worked as a comptroller for the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, the Fallon Clinic and the Henley Lundgren Company before starting a consulting business, Eckland Financial Management Group, with his son David.

Mr. Eckland was a life-long member and past president of the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury, served on the Shrewsbury Board of Finance and was the Treasurer of the Quinsigamond Rowing Association, prior to retiring to Cape Cod. During his retirement years, he was a member and past President of the Men’s Club of South Yarmouth and a member and past president of the Dennis Yarmouth Newcomers Club. Mr. Eckland was an avid golfer, a big fan of Boston sports and Holy Cross basketball. His biggest joy was taking his grandchildren to the Sundae School for ice cream. Mr. Eckland was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury and St. Pius X Parish in South Yarmouth.

Mr. Eckland is survived by a son, David Eckland and his wife, Mary of Newmarket, NH; two daughters, Mary Lou Jackson and her husband, William of South Yarmouth, MA, and Joan Walker of Madison, CT; and many nieces and nephews. He was the proud Grampy of six grandchildren, Benjamin Jackson and his wife, Katherine, Joshua and Sarah Jackson, Christopher and Melissa Walker and David Eckland II. He leaves a sister Dorothy McNeil, brother Robert Eckland and his wife, Catherine. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, William Eckland and Philip Eckland.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Saint Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Boylston St., Shrewsbury. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Catholic Academy, 37 Erie Avenue, Brockton, MA 02302.
