Obituary for Zygmunt F "Ziggy" Podmostka

Zygmunt “Ziggy” F. Podmostka, 96, of Worcester, died peacefully Thursday, April 5, 2018, with his loving family by his side.

He is survived by his loving son, Paul Podmostka and his wife Linda of Leicester, six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; his sister Josephine Hackett of Worcester, and many nieces and nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen (Ciesluk) Podmostka, his daughter Karen Patraitis, his son, Kenneth Podmostka, and his sister Blanch Jason.

Ziggy was born and raised in Worcester, the son of the late Marcin and Waleria (Siwicka) Podmostka. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade then went on to study at Fitchburg State. Ziggy was a proud WWII Navy Veteran serving in the South Pacific.

He worked at Norton Company for 41 years. Ziggy was a lifelong member of Saint Joseph’s Parish where he served as an Eucharist Minister and a Lector. He was a member of the Men’s Greendale Club, Polish American Veterans Auxiliary, and the Norton Caravan Club. His happiest and most cherished moments were telling stories about his times in WWII, marching in the Veteran’s Day parade, telling jokes, and spending time with his family and his wife.

Ziggy’s family wishes to thank all that helped care for him during his last months.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday April 9, 2018 from 8:30-10:30AM in BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A funeral Mass celebrating Ziggy’s life will follow at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North Auburn. He will be buried next to his beloved Helen in Notre Dame Cemetery in Worcester. Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Inc, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
