Obituary for Donald P Garnache

Donald P. Garnache, 85 of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. The son of Albert and Mary (Convery) Garnache, Don was born and raised in Worcester. Graduating from Boys’ Trade School, Don joined the army, and through the GI Bill ultimately graduated with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Vanderbilt University.

Don practiced law in Auburn as an attorney and Town Counsel. He was very involved in the local community, serving as a Selectman, teaching Sunday school at First Congregational Church, and coaching YMCA basketball. Changing careers later in life, Don pursued his artistic creativity, opening the Worcester Art and Frame Gallery.

He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years Alice (Keene) Garnache in January of this year. Don is survived by three of his children, Catherine A. Garnache of Auburn, MA, Neil A. and his wife Kirstin Garnache of Chesapeake, VA, David K. and his wife Julie Garnache of Wheaton, IL; eight grandchildren, Megan, Alicia, Peter, Kate, Cooper, Bridgette, Carson, and Karissa, siblings Barbara Herman of York, ME, and Susan Crockett of Charlton, MA. He was predeceased by his son Kenneth Garnache of New York, and his brother Al Garnache of Waltham, MA.

Don greatly enjoyed woodworking, photography, and making calendars every year for friends and family. But more than anything, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, of whom he was exceedingly proud.
Services with family will be held privately. In lieu of flowers and in gratitude to the wonderful service provided by Auburn Fire and Rescue, the family requests any memorial donations be made to the Auburn Fire Department Rescue Fund.
