Obituary for Chester R "Chet" Ellis

Chester R "Chet" Ellis
Chester “Chet” R. Ellis 86, resident of Worcester, MA passed away peacefully on August 6, 2018 at Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitative Services, Worcester, MA.

He was born in Framingham, MA on July 19, 1932, the son of Chester Langley Ellis, of Tiverton, RI, and Bernice (Schofield) Ellis, of Framingham, MA. Chester was raised and educated in Framingham, MA and graduated from Framingham High School, Class of 1950. One of his earliest achievements was becoming an Eagle Scout, which helped to foster his love of the great outdoors. Chester was a long-time resident, parishioner and Lay Eucharist Minister at St. Tarcisius Church in Framingham, MA.

He was employed at Dennison Manufacturing for several years before starting his own business, Roto-Floor Cleaning, with partner Ed Rogaishio. He married Jo-an H. Goslant, of Framingham, MA on July 1, 1961, and they raised three children in Framingham. They moved to Marlborough, MA, where he later retired from the construction industry.

Chet shared his love of nature with his family, taking them on hiking and camping trips as well as fun-filled vacations on Cape Cod. Chet cherished his time spent near the ocean. In addition, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and ice-fishing with "the Guys", his son, nephews and friends. Chet had a reputation as being an accomplished handyman, designing many kitchens and tackling many home improvement projects. Chester was an avid card player, who enjoyed playing and teaching bridge, at a level in which he won several awards. He was a golf enthusiast, and his children loved tagging along as his caddy. He was known to have a nap or two while watching his beloved golf tournaments.

He will always be remembered as a hard working family man, with very strong work ethics. He was frugal and never lived beyond his means, passing these values onto his children. Chester was cherished by his children; Clare and John Pollock of Francestown, NH; Ruth and Tim Kingston of Oxford, MA; and John Ellis of Douglas, MA.; and his 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Chet is survived by his sister, Shirley (Ellis) Matthews of St. Petersburg, FL, as well as six nieces and seven nephews. He is predeceased by his late brother, Fred S. Ellis of Framingham, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Chet’s family on Sunday August 12, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 pm in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St, Shrewsbury. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 13, at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA, followed by the burial at Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson, MA.
