Obituary for George M. Rocha

George M. Rocha
George M. Rocha, 74, of Holden, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth A. (Schold) Rocha, in June 2008.

He is survived by a son, Matthew G. Rocha, his wife Carrie and three granddaughters Emily, Lauren and Stella of Marietta, Georgia; a brother, Joseph Rocha and his wife Ann Marie of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.

George was born in Milford and was a graduate of Worcester State College. He then received his master’s degree in physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He taught at Hudson High School for 29 years before retiring in 1995 for health reasons. He enjoyed teaching, but his passion was coaching baseball, spending many years in the Shrewsbury youth baseball program.

For the last ten years George lived with his son, daughter-in-law and three granddaughters, and was involved in their daily routines, whether attending gymnastics meet, grandparents’ day at school or simply flipping through a picture book cuddled with one of the girls on his chair. He adored and loved them dearly.
He was a passionate New England sports fan, dedicated to the Red Sox, rarely missing even a single pitch. He recently attended their 100th win at Fenway, a memory we will truly treasure.

An avid fisherman, George always enjoyed time at the Cape and at the ocean. His yearly trips with friends to Maine and Saratoga were times he cherished. In recent years, he enjoyed Lake Winnipesaukee with family and friends, spending afternoons on the beach or listening to sports and music on the porch.

He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the many young people he impacted through the years. Thank you to all who have helped him throughout the years to continue to enjoy life, despite his health challenges.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA on Sunday, October 21 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 22 at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
