Obituary for Victor J Romans

Victor J. Romans, 96, passed away on Thursday November 15, 2018 in Wilbraham surrounded by his loving family.

Victor was born in Worcester, son of the late Walter and Stella (Zocawski) Romanofsky. He attended Worcester schools and the Becker Junior College. Victor then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served in the Atlantic, North Africa and the South Pacific where he was the lead engineer on the U.S.S. YF-1050. He had a long and varied career with the Unites States Postal Service retiring as Safety Officer of the Central Massachusetts District.

He leaves his wife of 70 years, Mary A. (Stepenovitch) Romans; two grandchildren, Andrew N. Belitsos and his wife Leah of Eden, Vermont and Demetra A. Atkins and her husband Jonathan of Monson, Massachusetts; three great grandchildren, Alexander and Maximus Belitsos and Liam Atkins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Ruth A Romans-Belitsos; a brother, John Romans and sisters, Helen Peterson and Anne Butkeicich.

Victor exemplified, what has been branded as, the greatest generation. The son of immigrant parents fleeing a totalitarian establishment to come to a new homeland with very little and no guarantees that prosperity would come to be. Victor worked hard at a young age, continually educating himself and never veering from the path of the good fight. He built his American dream with a plan and followed his blueprints as to pass on his legacy of strategy to the next generation of his family. Victor, despite a grim upbringing, had lived a long happy and healthy life. He pushed through all the challenges he came across and was destined to live his life to the fullest. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, bowling, cross country-sking and cribbage, but most importantly making long lasting memories with his family.

Funeral services for Victor will be held privately in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St, Shrewsbury. Burial with military honors will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Memorial donations may be made to Orchard Valley at Wilbraham.
