Obituary for Sarah A Lavin (Latino)

AUBURN- Sarah A. (Latino) Lavin, 97, formerly of Auburn died peacefully Monday November 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Her husband Joseph Patrick Lavin died in 1984. Sarah is survived by her children, Joseph P. Lavin and his wife Deborah of Leicester, William M. Lavin and his wife Carolyn of Shrewsbury, Mary M. Senosk and her husband Ronald of Sutton, Patricia J. Odgren of Mesa, AZ and Kathleen A. Shaw and her husband Raymond of Auburn; also survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a brother, John Latino and his wife Joan of Auburn. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her siblings, Charles, Theodore, Joseph, Louis, Sylvestro, Ann, Eva and Jean.

Sarah was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Calogero and Maria (Costellana) Latino. She graduated from Commerce High School and later attended many evening classes at the Worcester Girls Trade School. During W.W. II she played an integral part of the war as most women her age and worked for the Heald Machine Company and the David Clark Company where she was involved in many military projects and met then Vice President Truman at the factory when he visited. Later in life when her children where grown, she was a waitress for over 25 years at the former Yankee Drummer in Auburn before she retired. Sarah had an infectious personality and was always the life of the party.

She was a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann in Worcester and Saint Joseph’s Parish in Auburn. For the past few years she has been a communicant of Our Lady of the Angels Church in Worcester. Sarah was a member of the Red Hat Society in Auburn and loved spending her summers days on the beach as a resident of Ogunquit, Maine. She loved her family immensely and her most treasured times were spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Sarah’s family on Thursday November 29, 2018 from 4-7 pm in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral will be on Friday, November 30, 2018 with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St, Worcester (Please kindly go directly to church). Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester. Memorial contributions may be may be made to the Lorraine Gleick Nordgren Senior Center, 4 Goddard Drive, Auburn, MA 01501.
