Obituary for Winifred E. Logan (Sterling)

Winifred E. Logan (Sterling)
Winifred E. (Sterling) Brierly Logan, 99, of Auburn, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton, surrounded by her loving family.

Born at home in Millbury on March 8, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Ethel and James Sterling. Winifred grew up in Millbury, and graduated from Millbury High School. She then studied at Becker College of Secretarial Science.

Winifred was pre-deceased by her first husband, James Brierly in 1972, her second husband, John C. Logan in 2008, and her two sisters, Evelyn Gustafson King and Vietta Batcheller. She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Brierly of Auburn, her grandchildren Thomas Brierly of Auburn, Laurie Bent of Auburn, and Wendi George of Leicester, and her two great-grandchildren Ashley and Kyle George of Leicester, who all loving called her as Gigi.

As the story goes, Winnie was due to be born on March 17th and was to be named Patricia. Instead, she came a week early, and was named after the midwife who delivered her – Winifred!

Winnie was a career woman who enjoyed working. Some of her past employers included David Clark Company, Sharfman Jewelers, and HR Rep at Aamaco Oil.

An avid dog lover, Winnie always had a dog by her side. She appreciated visits from her granddogs while living at Overlook Masonic Home.

Winnie was a proud Auburn resident for over 50 years. She was involved in many town organizations including: the Board of Directors of the Auburn District Nursing, she was a past president of the Auburn Woman’s Club, and a past president of the President’s Club. Winnie was part of the Vestry at Saint Thomas Church, where she was a member for many years.

Many thanks to the staff at Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton, who cared for Winnie over the past ten years, and especially over the last few months. Their love was evident in the care they provided. Special thanks to Jennifer Johnson of Millbury for all the cards sent to Winnie every week during the last decade.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform a random act of kindness in Winnie’s honor. You could pay it forward, visit someone in a nursing home or hospital, be kind to animals, or send a card to someone - they will appreciate it.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Winnie’s family on Tuesday December 18, 2018 from 10:30-11:30 am in the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St, Auburn followed by a prayer service at 11:30 am. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
