Joyce W  Fowler (Grendol)
Joyce W. (Grendol) Fowler of Auburn died on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester after a period of declining health.

She was predeceased by her husband George L. Fowler, Deputy Superintendent of Bay Path Regional High School in 1995. Joyce spent her entire married life in Webster, she leaves her sister Jean DiCostanzo and her husband, the late John and their children David, Donald and his wife Roseann, Jay Anthony, Deeann Roseberry and her husband Knoll, Kathleen Mucha and her husband Ken, all of California; her sister Judith Durkin and her husband Thomas of Auburn and their children Kevin of Worcester, a very special goddaughter Laureen Callahan and her children Margaret, and Kaitlyn of Auburn; Paula Reno and her husband Stephen and their children Keryn, Kelsey, and Shannon of Millbury. Joyce also leaves behind her brother John R. Grendol, Jr and his wife Sandy of Maine, and John’s children Michael and Mark of Brimfield, Brian and his wife Melissa of Sutton, and Jennifer Ordway of Auburn; her sister Janice Foster and her husband William of Charlton and their children Christopher and his wife Cheryl of Holden, William and his wife Katerina of Charlton, Karen Allen and her husband Brian of Holden; and her nephews and their families, Robert and Sharon Fowler of Sturbridge, William and Diane Fowler of Webster, David and Beverly Fowler of Charlton.

Joyce was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Herrie) Grendol. She graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. She was the nurse manager of the first Surgical Intensive Care Unit to open in the city of Worcester. She also reorganized the Emergency Department at the Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster and then returned to Worcester City Hospital to reorganize the Emergency Department, from where she retired as Nurse Director. She was the past President of the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.

In retirement, Joyce continued to share her knowledge and expertise as a Registered Nurse, working tirelessly at the Senior Center in Webster. She was President of the Board of Directors for ten years, a member of the Silver Dippers, and the Ladies of Lady Slipper Lane in Auburn.

Joyce loved Foxwood, Saratoga Springs, and spending summers with her family on Cape Cod. “Aunty Joyce” was a wonderful cook and made the best cookies. She was a loving and giving sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Webster.
