Obituary for Dennis M O'Neill

Dennis M  O'Neill
Dennis M. O’Neill, 72, of Webster died peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Sophia A. (Maciorakowski) O’Neill for 50 years.

Born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of the late Leonard T. O’Neill and Angeline M. (Mootz) O’Neill. Dennis graduated from Central High School in Aurora, Colorado in 1964. Shortly after graduating, Dennis enlisted for service in the United States Navy. In the Navy, Dennis was an Aviation Technician on the USS Wasp (CVS-18). Dennis was then stationed at The US Naval Station in Adak Alaska. Dennis proudly served for four years and was honorably discharged. During his time in the service, he met Sophia and soon after the couple was married and they eventually settled in Oxford Massachusetts where they raised their family. Later in life, Dennis pursued his degree at Quinsigamond Community College where he graduated with an Associates Degree in Science in 1981. Dennis proudly joined The American Legion in 1982. He held the Office of Commander for the Chester P. Tuttle Post 279. Dennis was also a member of The Vietnam Veterans Association of America Chapter 554 of Central, Massachusetts, The Webster-Dudley Polish American Veterans and the Elks. Dennis worked as a Courier for UMass Hospital for many years until his retirement. Dennis was a good loving person and loved his family immensely. Dennis enjoyed socializing, playing Keno, fishing and spending time in Newport with his wife Sophia. Dennis will be sorely missed.

Dennis is survived by his daughters, Kelly Lauzonis and her husband Steven of Jacksonville, Florida, Julie Lizotte and her husband Michael of Athol, Massachusetts; grandchildren Parker, Sawyer and Autumn Lizotte; siblings Jerry O’Neill of Colorado, Robert O’Neill of California, James O’Neill of Florida and nieces and nephews, Michael O’Neill, Denise Dougherty, Cheryl Macioriaowski, and Dr. Lisa (Maciorakowski) Desmond.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dennis’ family between the hours of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn with a brief prayer service to follow. Burial will be held privately by his family at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honor of Dennis to Veterans Inc. 69 Grove St. Worcester, MA 01605, http://www.veteransinc.org, a homeless veterans group.
