Obituary for Terence J. "Terry" Looney

Terence J. “Terry” Looney, 61, of Spencer and Auburn, died unexpectedly on Friday November 15, 2019 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, surrounded by his loving family.

Terry was born in Worcester on February 12, 1958. His parents, the late Helen I. (Connors) and John B. Looney, Sr., raised Terry and his seven siblings in Auburn. Terry graduated from Auburn High School in 1976, after which he began to work for many construction companies throughout Worcester County.

Terry is survived by his three siblings, Kathleen J. Conley and her husband William of Dudley, Anne M. Looney of Auburn, and Timothy J. Looney and his wife Marybeth of Auburn. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Terry was predeceased by his parents and four of his brothers, John B. Looney, Jr.; Daniel P. “Speedy” Looney; Michael K. “Mickey” Looney; and, most recently, Thomas P. Looney, who died in June of 2019. He was also predeceased by his long time companion Hilda Young.

Fishing had always been one of his favorite pastimes, which he also used as an opportunity to help others - Terry was active in WRAP (Worcester Refugee Assistance Project) where he would teach children how to fish for a day. He loved taking part in something that meant so much to the kids. He loved music and laughter and the company of friends. Above all, Terry cherished his family.

Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Terry’s memory may be made to St. John’s Food for the Poor Program, 20 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604 (www.stjohnsfoodforthepoor.org) or Massachusetts Veterans Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605 (www.veteransinc.org)
