Obituary for Paul S Smyrnios
AUBURN- On November 30th, we lost a loving, kind-spirited deeply loyal man: Paul Spero Smyrnios. Paul was the son of the late Helen (Swenton) and Stephen Smyrnios of Auburn MA, beloved brother to Robert Smyrnios husband to Susan Szot, devoted husband for 48 years to June (Morris) Smyrnios, father to Rachel Suzuki and Angela Chillar. His daughters gave him 4 grandchildren: Emma Suzuki, Stephen Chillar, Andrew (Drew) Chillar and Alexander (Alex) Chillar. Paul was father-in-law to Andrew (Andy) Chillar whom he loved like a son. Paul will be remembered for being the ideal family man and helpful neighbor. His integrity, steadfastness and faith in doing the right thing will shine on forever.
Paul worked at the family diner: The Flying Yankee from the age of 9. He graduated from Auburn High School, went on to Quinsigamond Community College and later matriculated to the Honeywell Institute to study computers. He worked for RCA, Framingham Trust Company later acquired by the Bank of Boston, Filene’s Basement, Sysco Food Service Company, TJX Corporation and finally EMC. He started his career as a Computer Operator, promoted to Management and System Analyst. After EMC he worked briefly for Peterson Oil.
Paul was involved in various church activities at Saint Anne’s Parish in Manchaug MA. He served as a Lector and a CCD teacher. His hobbies included working on his corvette taking it to numerous shows to win trophies. Later in retirement, Paul and June joined a bowling league. He was always outside caring for his yard and loved chopping wood and cutting down trees. Snow storms were his favorite, he was often the first in the neighborhood to snow blow after a big storm and bring in wood for a roaring fire in the stove.
Family and friends were incredibly important to him. He loved all the time spent with his girls and grandchildren. The very best father a girl could ask for he always took them to dance, karate or sports. Paul never missed a family dinner, family event, or family vacation they meant the world to him. When his daughters gave him grandchildren he was over the moon. He spent as much time with them as he could. Showing his girls and grandchildren how to be good men and women was of the utmost importance to him. He wanted to inspire them all to always do the right thing. He will be remembered always as kind and incredibly loving.
Paul often said “we have the best friends and neighbors”. He is grateful for the laughs, dinners, parties and just hanging out. Paul would always be there for these friends and neighbors helping his friends and family was his passion.
Relatives and friends may visit with Paul’s family on Thursday December 5, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Friday December 6, 2019 with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10:00 am at Saint Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
In lieu of flowers, Paul would like donations to go to St Joseph’s Catholic Church, in Auburn MA or Dana Farber Cancer Institute Boston, MA in his memory.
