Obituary for Robert T. Conroy

Robert T. “Bobby” Conroy, 71, formerly of Auburn, died peacefully on the morning of Saturday December 7, 2019 at Western Mass Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife of forty years, the late Frances “Fran” (Krasowsky) Conroy.

Born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, Bobby was the son of the late Ralph J. and Rita F. (LaPlante) Conroy. He played hockey for and graduated from Auburn High School in 1967, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force and serving in Vietnam as a Sergeant in the military police. Bobby and Fran moved out to New Mexico and began to work at her family’s business, Oasis Dairy Farm, in Roswell. They returned to and settled in Auburn and, shortly after his mother’s death, took over ownership of his family’s store, Chieftain’s Package Store, Inc.

Bobby is survived by his sister, Patricia L. Burns and her husband Stephen of Webster; nieces, Heather (Burns) Guyette and Jennifer (Burns) Gayewski, both of Webster; and several great nieces and nephews. Bobby was predeceased by his beloved canine companion, Chevis.

Bobby enjoyed hockey, even sponsoring his own team (the ‘Chieftains’), travelling, and collecting cars. He loved life, entertaining friends and family, and finding joy in the little things. He and Fran truly lived life to the fullest.

Graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday February 22, 2020 in the Overlook Section of Hillside Cemetery, 65 Central St., Auburn, with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Auburn Lodge of Elks, 754 Southbridge St., Auburn.
