Obituary for Arthur E. Johnson
Arthur E. Johnson, lifelong Auburn resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2020.
Born in Worcester and raised in Auburn, Arthur was one of two sons born to Marie E. (Harrington) Johnson and the late Carl E. Johnson. He graduated from Clarke School for the Deaf, in Northampton. He began his career as a Machinist at Smith Valve Corporation, originally in Worcester, for over 18 years. Arthur retired from Anderson Brush Company in Auburn, after dedicating many years of hard work.
Arthur was a man of many interests and hobbies; first and foremost, he was an enthusiastic member of and advocate for the deaf community, in which he had made many friends and connections. He loved his hobby trains and spending time in his workshop, and had a passion for antiques and antique-collecting. Arthur also loved classic cars, hot rods, especially one of his first cars, the ’55 Chevy Bel Air. You could find him at the Auburn Flea Market or having his afternoon coffee in many local donut shops. He had a great love for all sports, especially the Red Sox or Patriots.
He leaves his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary H. (Roy) Johnson, of Auburn; his devoted and loving children; Lisa M. (Johnson) Squires and her husband, David, of Spencer, and Mark E. Johnson and his wife, Stephanie, of Cocagne, Canada; his cherished grandchildren; Kristianna Landry, of Spencer, Ava Helen Yvette Johnson, of Canada, and his step-grandchildren, Alyssa, Nicholas, and Anyka, also of Canada; his brother, Richard E. Johnson and his wife, Sandra, of Newburyport; as well as his niece, Dawn Cardeiro and her husband, Robert; and nephew, Eric Johnson and his wife, Janet.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Arthur’s family between 4:00 and 6:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA. Masks and social distancing measures will be required upon entry. Services and burial will be held privately.
