Obituary

Robert L. Lacouture, 67, of Worcester, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 16, 2020.

Born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury, Bob was one of six children born to Jacqueline R. (Leonard) Lacouture and the late Alphonse L. Lacouture, Jr. He was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School, prior to attending and graduating from Fitchburg State University, where he received a B.S. degree in Special Education and subsequently taught in Worcester for many years. Most recently, Robert worked as a Correctional Officer and a Lab Technician at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert loved his family, the ocean, trips to Florida with his mother, music, cycling and relaxing at his seasonal cottage in Fitzwilliam, NH. Children brought him great joy and he was a devoted husband, son, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Along with his mother, Jackie, Bob is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Tayler; his sons, Jeremy Lacouture, Jonathan Lacouture, both of Worcester, and James Lacouture and his wife, Audrey, of Hingham; his stepson, Alexander Tayler, of Worcester; his brothers, Bradley of Westport, Stephen of Yuba City, CA, Wayne of Westport, Scott and his wife, Maggie of Dover, NH, and Kevin and his wife, Pat of Worcester; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Brenda Christine Lacouture.

It would be hard to overestimate how important Bob Lacouture was to me as a teenage-kid growing up in Shrewsbury. Even though we were the same age, he always seemed somehow older, more mature and more worldly. We negotiated high school together, went to our first rock concerts together and went on our first dates together. We even hitchhiked to Canada, but never got past the border, as the immigration officials wouldn’t let us in. It was Canada’s loss; they would have liked Bob. Everybody liked Bob. Whether it was trips to Cape Cod, or Hampton Beach or hours spent in his basement bedroom, listening to music and trying to understand the complexities of life, Bob was the friend who made all difference. I regret that when adulthood set in we drifted in different directions, but I remember everything we did together, and remember it all so very fondly. Thanks for being my friend, Bob. I’ll see you on the other side. -Mike O'Connor, Orleans, MA

Rebecca and family - Bob was a great friend and co-worker. We even had fun at work. We used to listen to Rod Stewart at work. Every time I hear Rod Stewart songs I think of him. So sorry for your loss. Janice Belanger
