Obituary for Elaine Newman Domnitz

Elaine Newman Domnitz passed away on November 2, 2020 from multiple sclerosis. She was the daughter of Herbert and Ethel (Hall) Newman, who were long-time residents of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. A private burial was held on November 6, 2020 at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury.

Elaine was born in Worcester in 1945 and moved with her family to Shrewsbury when she was 12 years old. She graduated from Shrewsbury High School and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in sociology from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in social work from Boston University. She worked for 10 years in the Massachusetts Division of Child Guardianship, finding placements for foster children and helping them adjust to their new families.

She eventually settled in Lexington, Massachusetts where she devoted her life to family and friends. Her many interests included gardening, quilting, cooking, learning about her Swedish heritage, and catching up with friends over a cup of coffee. Her friends described her as a good listener, thoughtful, and even sassy at times.

She is survived by her beloved daughters, Sarah and Jessica, her former husband Robert, her sister Beverly, and her two nieces Carrie and Janel.
