With heavy hearts and a deep sadness, the family of Joanne Bates announce her passing on January 1, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, MA.

Joanne, age 59, was born in Boston MA, the daughter of the late John P. Bates and Eileen (Hannon/Bates) McMullin.

Joanne was a loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grand aunt.

Joanne had a love for life and her family. She enjoyed bingo, the occasional trip to the casino, “road trips” and her lengthy telephone conversations with her many siblings. Joanne enjoyed every family visit between Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, Texas and Canada with each visiting ending with the beginning plans of her return.

"The impact our sister Joanne made in our lives and on the people around her, is a testament of the kind person she was. We will miss her dearly and think of her daily. She was funny and courageous 'til the end."

Joanne is survived by her beloved son Andrew, sisters Patricia (Danny), Judi (Dennis), Marie (Tom), brothers John, Michael (Laurie), David (Michelle) and George (Heather), several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister Susan.

As per Joanne's request there will be no visitation. Interment to take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn, MA.

There are no words to express the sadness I feel in your passing. You fought through so many battles in your lifetime. You were positive, courageous and strong until the end. I will miss our phone calls and sisters weekends. You will forever be in our hearts and thoughts. May you rest in peace. Sisters Forever. We Love You. ......... Danny and Patty

My aunt Joanne will be very missed she was always there for me and my children always giving good advice always making us laugh it was always a roast session when she was around lol but even tho she had a great sense of humor there were definitely things she did not play about wich was her son or respect i will forever hear her voice in my head yelling “excuse you!” When I was out of line as a kid and now she says it to my children lol she has always been the same person never switched up she was fun tough and loved to chat lol but she was always a good person to her family and friends always kept her word she would do just fine in a mafia family when it comes to loyalty and respect lol but most importantly she had a big heart everyone knew just how much she loved her son Andrew she had no problem letting it be known so the greatest compliment I could ever leave with her was that she was a great mother and that is the best thing to ever be I love you and will always miss you good luck in heaven bingo (fingers crossed) tell nana sue and auntie patsy that we love them as well until we see y’all again
