Obituary for Richard H. Fairbanks

Richard H. Fairbanks, 81, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his wife Susann M. (Burnell) Fairbanks; his children, Cynthia Courchaine and her husband Roy, of Auburn, Christine Goodrich and her husband David, of Auburn, Richard H. Fairbanks and his wife Shari, of Leicester; a step-daughter, Robin (Conkey) Burnell, of Sutton; 13 grandchildren: Roy, Nicole, David, Dalton, Drew, Logan, Amber, Sara, Christopher, Andrew, Danielle, Teresa, and Kaitlyn; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joan Fairbanks, of Auburn; and Mary Jane Urban of Worcester as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, the late Henry M. Fairbanks, Jr. and Lillian (Smith) Fairbanks, Richard was predeceased by his first wife, Carole J. (Devio) Fairbanks, his brother, Robert Fairbanks, and his grandson, Tyler Johnson.

Born, raised, and educated in Worcester, Richard was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High School, where he studied Cabinet Making. He went on to work for Clark University for over forty years before retiring in 2002. He also worked at the former Bethany Church.

In his free time, Richard enjoyed playing cards, flea markets, the dog track, watching all sports, and collecting his Jim Beam Whiskey bottles.

Richard’s family would like to thank the staff at Salmon Hospice of Grafton and Milford, as well as the staff of Beaumont Rehabilitation in Northborough for their kind and compassionate care.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mr. Fairbanks’ family between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn, MA, followed by burial at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
