Obituary for Alice M. Rea (Healey)
Alice M. Rea, 95, long time resident of Auburn, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Life Care Center of Auburn.
Alice leaves her son, Robert Rea and his wife Colleen, of Dudley; grandchildren Meghan Probert and husband Colin, of Centreville, VA, and Patrick Rea and wife Kimberly, of Cranston, RI; and great grandchildren Hannah Rea, Madelyn Rea, and Winston Probert. She also leaves four stepdaughters: Jayne Parker of Worcester, Ann Odgren of Nescopeck, PA, Linda Rocheford of Worcester, and Joan Parker of Auburn, as well as Deborah Black of Spencer and Eva Brown, two very special friends.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Robert S. Rea (“Bob”) in 1965. She was also predeceased by siblings Thomas Healey, Robert Healey, Marion Whittaker, and Louise Rothera, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Alice graduated from Mary D. Stone School, Auburn, Auburn High School, and David Hale Fanning School of Nursing in Worcester. She worked at several hospitals, nursing homes, and did private care for many years.
Alice and her late husband Bob were active in Cub Scout Troop 101 (Congregational Church-Auburn) and Girl Scout Troop 102 (Bethel Lutheran Church-Auburn). Alice and Bob were 2nd Lieutenants in the Civil Air Corps stationed out of Worcester Airport, and graduated from the Auburn Community Emergency Regional Training Program.
She was a graduate of the Bob Ross Art School and studied with other art teachers in Connecticut and Florida. She taught painting and crafts at several Senior Centers until stricken with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a rare and most painful disease.
Alice was the recipient of the John Riley Outstanding Citizenship Award in 2017, as recognition for her many years of volunteer efforts. She served as Treasurer of the Auburn Housing Authority for numerous years. She worked with therapy dogs at various nursing homes, as well as volunteering at VNA Hospice. She was very active at the Senior Center, including being a member of the Red Hat Society, Past Prime Time Players, and providing Cooking for One presentations.
Alice will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the Auburn community.
Services will be held privately for the Rea family. Public calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2021 from 2-4 PM at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St, Auburn. Masks and social distancing measures will be required. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Worship Center, 256 Parker Ave, Holden, MA 01520 or a charity of your choice.
