Obituary for Edgar A. Deprey

Edgar A. Deprey, 99, of Dalton Drive, Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joanne (St. Louis) Deprey, in July of 2019, with whom he had shared 73 wonderful years.

He leaves his daughters, Sandra M. Ballard and her late husband, James, of Westborough, and Linda T. Fitzsimmons and her husband, Robert, of Holden; his grandchildren, Christina McCarthy, of Oxford, Robert Fitzsimmons, Jr., and his fiancée, Ashley, of West Brookfield, Rebecca Lubelczyk, of North Attleboro, and Michelle Ballard Ward, of Florida; his great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kaitlyn McCarthy, Paul and Nickolas Lubelczyk, and Karissa Bourque; and several nieces in nephews. Along with his wife; and his parents, the late Alphonse and Celina (Martin) Deprey; Edgar was also predeceased by his siblings, Dorius Deprey and Freda Violette, both of Maine.

Born in Wallagrass, ME, raised and educated in Fort Kent, ME, he was a graduate of Fort Kent High School. In 1946, Edgar began his career and became owner of Mobil Gas Station in Old Orchard Beach, ME. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, serving proudly until 1953 when he was honorably discharged. In 1964, Edgar and Joanne relocated with their family from Maine to Shrewsbury, after becoming a franchisee of Midas Muffler in South Portland. He was the owner of Midas Muffler Shops in Shrewsbury, Auburn, Worcester, East Hartford and New Britain, CT for more than 30 years, retiring in 1989.

Edgar was a past Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator of the Old Orchard Beach Council Knights of Columbus, and was a Fourth Degree Knight. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, where he loved to golf with friends and family in his free time.

His family wishes to thank the staff of Saint Vincent Hospital and Worcester Home Health Care, especially Ana and Kate, for their compassionate care of Edgar.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Deprey family between 10:30 and 11:30 AM on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2021 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, followed by a funeral Mass at 12 Noon at Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
