Obituary for Elizabeth I. O'Connell

Elizabeth I. O’Connell, 91, of Auburn and originally of Molahiffe, Co. Kerry, Ireland, passed away unexpectedly at UMASS Memorial – University Campus on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021 with her loving children by her side.

Born, raised, and educated in Ireland, Elizabeth was one of seven children born to the late John and Bridget (Scully) O’Connell. She emigrated to the United States while in her twenties to begin a new chapter. Settling in Auburn, Elizabeth started her career of almost thirty years working for the former State Mutual Insurance. She retired in 2000.

Elizabeth cherished spending time with her family, especially during the holidays and visits back to the “Old Sod.” She was always ready for the many adventures she took with her friends on bus trips and social gatherings organized by the church. She loved gardening, crocheting, and cooking as well.

She is survived by her children: Paul R. Wahlstrom, Philip W. Wahlstrom and his wife Judith of Rangeley ME, Kerry M. Quick and her husband Mark of Hayes, VA, Karen T. Johnson and her partner Michael Hebert of Leicester, MA. Her grandchildren: Tommy and his wife Bethie, Devin and his wife Erin, Bobby, Eric, and Jillian. Her great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Nathaniel, Alexandria, Kaylan, Marky, and Matthew. Her siblings: Sheelah Drawl, and John O’Connell. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by two beloved grandchildren, Shannon and Joshua; and four siblings: Timmy Joe, Kathleen, Nancy, and Frank.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the O’Connell family from 9:30 – 11:00 AM on Monday, August 9th, 2021 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 NOON at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester, followed by burial in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
