Obituary for Anthony P "Tony" Sacovitch

Anthony P. “Tony” Sacovitch, 78, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2022, with his loving family at his side.

He leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, LaDonna M. (McGlone) Sacovitch; his daughters, Lisa Villa and her husband Michael, of Auburn, Kerrie Sacovitch, of Sutton, Donna Moore and her husband Philip, of Suffield, CT, Lori Browning and her husband Terrence, of Sanford, FL, and Kristina Evanowski and her husband Michael, of Shirley; his grandchildren, Catherine, Tony, Elisabeth, and Caroline Villa, Gabrielle, Jared, and Collin O’Connor, Kyle and Nolan Moore, Benjamin, Rosemarie, John, Margaret, Katherine, Joseph, and Anne Evanowski; many nieces and nephews; as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law, who were like siblings to him. Tony was predeceased by his parents, William and Nina (Kilmonis) Sacovitch; and his siblings, William Sacovitch and wife Larissa, and Kristina LaRange and husband Frank.

Tony was born, raised, and educated in Worcester and Leicester. He attended Lamartine St. Elementary School in Worcester, Leicester High School, Worcester Junior College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, 1966). He began his career as a Mechanical Engineer for Valve Components and U.S. Fire Control, then worked as Plant Manager of Wright Machine Corp. for 20 years. Tony retired in 2019 from the College of the Holy Cross after 20 years, serving briefly as Assistant to the Science Librarian and then as a Lab Supervisor in the Physics Department, where he found a second career, and a second family.

He enjoyed serving his parishes as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Finance Committee, Bishop’s Fund, and Parish Council. Tony loved wood carving, gardening, farming, and was always inventing and tinkering. He loved all genres of music, played the accordion and was self-taught in the guitar, harmonica and other instruments. He enjoyed trips to the lake and ocean, and was known for being a chili chef, grill master, and Mr. Fix It!

Above all, Tony was a devoted and faith-filled family man as evidenced by his attendance at the many events of his children and grandchildren, helping to build his parent’s home in Leicester, and caring for his own parents and LaDonna’s parents as they aged. He was a patient teacher and mentor, ever hard-working and helpful. The world has lost an amazingly honest, kind, and curious soul, but Tony’s legacy will live on in his children and their children.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kateri’s Kitchen at North American Martyr’s Parish and the Diocese of Worcester Retirement Fund for Religious. Or you may continue to spread Tony's goodness through a charity that has special meaning to you.
