Obituary for Kirsten M. "Kirby" Backlin

Kirsten M. “Kirby” Backlin, 51, of Auburn, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Life Care Center of Auburn, surrounded by her loving family.

Kirsten is survived by her loving parents, David and Shirley (Anderson) Backlin of Auburn; her sisters, Cheryl A. Scanlon and her husband Daniel, of Auburn, with whom she lived; Wendy Duncan and her husband Philip, of Auburn; her brother, Timothy Backlin and his wife Lori, of Auburn; her nieces and nephews: Bethany, David, Marcus, Nicholas, Jenna, Erin, Matthew, and Kayla; her great-nieces and nephews: Abigail, Noah, Emmalyn, Elijah, Logan, Calvin, and Judah; as well as her beloved dogs, Maya and Copper.

Kirsten was born in Greenfield, MA and raised and educated in Auburn, graduating from Auburn High School in 1988. She attended Eastern Nazarene College, as well as Worcester State University, where she received her business degree. She worked for Mercantile Image Press in the Payroll/HR department as an Administrative Assistant. She later worked as an Insurance Verifier for UMASS Hahnemann Hand Clinic for many years.

Kirsten greatly enjoyed collecting and visiting lighthouses throughout New England. She was an avid reader and deeply loved any and all music by Michael W. Smith. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her favorite show, “Friends,” along with the classic movies from the 80’s and 90’s. She especially cherished time with family and friends vacationing in Ocean Park, Maine and taking trips with her friend Kathy to New York City.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to the UMASS Transplant Team for their compassionate care of Kirsten.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 5 - 7 PM on Monday, July 11, 2022 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn. A private burial will be held at a later date. The Britton-Wallace Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
