Obituary for Earle L. Gaulzetti

Earle L. Gaulzetti, 87, of Webster, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022 in the comfort of his home, with his loving family and friends at his side.

He leaves his lovingly devoted companion of 23 years, Carolyn (Kallio) Salmonson, of Webster; his beloved daughter, Cheryl (Gaulzetti) Wilson and her partner, Hugh Adams, of Parsonsfield, ME; his adoring grandchildren, Warren Wilson and his wife Jennifer, of Bilboa, Spain, and Lynn (Wilson) Kirk and her husband Keith, of Durham, NH; and great-grandchildren, Caleigh Kirk, Weston Kirk, and Calvin Wilson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends, and Carolyn’s family, including her daughter, Dawn E. Parker and her husband Ken, Ken’s children, Andrew and Kenena; Carolyn’s grandson, Ronald Salmonson, III; and Linda Luce, John Kallio, Hanna Zajkowski, Frances Kulak, and Mary and Ken Johnson. Earle was predeceased by his beloved wife of 41 years, Shirley (Wyman) Gaulzetti; Carolyn’s son, Ronald Salmonson, Jr., who was Earle’s fishing buddy; his siblings: Henry, Richard, Albert, Alfred, Robert, Lillian, and Anita; and their parents, Joseph and Myrtle (Houghton) Gaulzetti.

Earle was born in Baldwinsville, MA and raised in Templeton; graduating from Templeton High School in 1952, where he was President of his class. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country proudly for the next twenty years, as a Meteorologist – he retired from the Navy as Chief Petty Officer in 1974. His career in the Navy allowed him the opportunity to live-in or visit many countries and places, including Cuba, New Zealand, Spain, Greenland, Iceland, Baffin Island, Newfoundland, Columbia, Peru, Chile, and the Arctic and Antarctic, along with most of Europe and several Pacific Islands, like Fiji and Hawaii.

Earle was a graduate of Central New England College in Worcester, earning a degree in Business Administration. After his Naval career, he was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service from 1978 to 1989, when he retired. Earle lived in Sanbornville, NH from 1989 to 2001, when he returned to Massachusetts.

He was a man of many talents, and was able to fix or repair anything. He was a true MacGyver! Earle enjoyed fishing, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, carpentry, painting, gardening, predicting the weather, dancing, coin-collecting, spending time in nature, playing his guitar and singing along, traveling with Carolyn to Florida for the winter season, being known for his talent with crossword puzzles and Suduko, going on cruises, playing cards (especially Blackjack!) at the casino, but most of all, he loved his time spent with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

His family would like to sincerely thank Care Central VNA and Earle’s physicians for their support and care during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Care Central VNA and Hospice, P.O. Box 368, Webster, MA 01570, or Veteran’s Inc, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.

A calling hour will be held from 10 – 11 AM on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Auburn, with a service at 11 AM. Burial will be held privately at a later date in Lawrence Brook Cemetery, Royalston, MA. The Britton-Wallace Funeral Home is honored to be assisting.
