Obituary for Pearl A. (Ackerman) Wheeler

Pearl A. (Ackerman) Wheeler, 83, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, the late Fred E. Wheeler, Jr., in 1986.

She leaves her devoted children: Patricia Guerin and her wife Donna Malone, of Oxford, Cris Wheeler and his longtime partner JeanMarie McAvoy, of Boise, ID, Jody Wheeler, of CT, and Tracy Hawthorne and her husband Michael, of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren, Ariel Lim, of Worcester, Elijah Wheeler, of Worcester, Alyssa Wingate, of Florida, Kassidi Hawthorne, of Orlando, and Zachary Wheeler, of Worcester; her great-grandchildren, Jacobi and Xander Lim, of Worcester, Elena and Emma Wheeler, of Japan, and Ayden Wingate, of Jacksonville; her sisters, Barbara Washburn and her husband Steve, of Charlton, and Shirley Connor and her husband William, of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews. Pearl was also predeceased by her brother, the late Norman Ackerman, of Florida; and their parents, the late Russell and Hazel (King) Ackerman.

Pearl was born in Worcester, and was a graduate of the David M. Fanning Girls Trade School, specializing in Hairdressing. She worked various jobs in the service industry, including waitressing for area restaurants and running a laundromat in Worcester.

Pearl was a Red Sox and Patriots fanatic, and loved cheering on her favorite teams. Above all, her family meant everything to her, including her cherished friend Barbara Reynold; seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a diabetes or kidney disease foundation of one’s choosing.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather for Pearl’s memorial service, which will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Auburn.
