Obituary for Dorcas L. "Dee" (Judkins) Janos-Hill

On Monday, August 15, 2022 Dorcas Lee Janos-Hill of Gardner, MA, formerly Franklin, N.H., passed away unexpectedly at the age of 70. Dorcas will be lovingly remembered by her biological family as well as the extended family she adopted throughout the years. She will also be dearly missed by her friends at the Laconia Indian Historical Association where she volunteered for over two decades fundraising to support education of the Native tradition. She loved each and every person in her life for who they were and was generous with both her time and knowledge.

Dorcas is survived by her siblings Deborah Judkins, James Kendrick Judkins (Jesus), Donna Judkins Tourigny (Normand), Jennie Judkins Kaspar (Michael); her children Terrie Hill Lundberg (Cliff), Leo Hill, Jr (Jamie) and Samantha Janos Laplante (Ryan); her grandchildren Nicole Lundberg, Gabrielle Hill Proulx, Robin Lundberg, Allissa Hill, Jolene Lundberg, Max Hill and Allegra Laplante and her great grandchildren Willow Proulx, Faith Lord, Irys Proulx, Charlotte Wallace and Claire Arsenault. Dorcas was predeceased by her father, Kendrick Judkins, mother Dorothy Ann Judkins Stone, and her grandmother Allegra Shepard.

Dorcas was born the first of five children, in Berlin, N.H. on October 17, 1951. Dorcas spent the early years of her life in Upton, Maine with her family until losing their family home and business to a fire in February, 1959. The Judkins Family then moved to Garden Grove, California residing there for 7 years before moving back to Berlin, N.H. in 1966. Dorcas graduated from Berlin High School in 1970. Dorcas had two children, Terrie and Leo Jr. with her first husband Leo Lawrence Hill, Sr and one daughter, Samantha, with her second husband Frank Janos Jr.

Dorcas was a natural caregiver and a “Jack of all trades”, working in many different careers over the years. Dorcas initially worked at Laconia State School taking care of physically and mentally disabled adults before going to school for carpentry, which enabled her to work at the Seabrook Station for several years. After Samantha was born, Dorcas went back to caring for the mentally and physically handicapped, eventually becoming a homecare provider. She retired in 2018 and moved to Massachusetts with Samantha and her husband Ryan.

There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Dorcas on Saturday, October 22 at the Elks Lodge 876, 17 Sugarbush Lane, Gilford, NH. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Laconia Indian Historical Association, P.O Box 244, Sanbornton, NH 03269.
