Obituary for Melanie Ann (Pusateri) Hoey

Melanie Ann (Pusateri) Hoey, of Charlton, MA and York Beach, ME, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family after an incredible and courageous 9-month battle with cancer on Thursday, August 25th.

Predeceased by her parents, Orlando and Evelyn Pusateri; and sister, Linda Pusateri, of Spencer, MA, Melanie lives on in her husband of almost 42 years, Patrick Hoey, of Charlton; her daughters, Marlena Eastty and her husband Adam, of Auburn, Lindsay Hoey and her partner Jay Dunlevy, of Charlton; three grandchildren, the loves of her life, Mahala, Cole and Alec Eastty; her sister, Sandra McGilvray and her husband Ron; nephew and Godson, Jim Pusateri; her big Hoey clan: her parents-in-law, who loved her as their own daughter for 45 years, Marguerite Hoey and the late Robert Hoey (who predeceased her in 2001); siblings-in-law, Paul and Sharon Hoey, Marita and Arthur LaPlante, Peggy and Timmy Somadelis, Robert and Mary Hoey, Mary and Don Clay, Daniel Hoey, Francis Hoey, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Melanie was born in Worcester, MA. She graduated from North Brookfield High School in 1973 and went on to study accounting at Leicester Junior College graduating at the top of her class. She then finished her BSBA in Accounting at Nichols College in 1979, graduating with high honors, meeting her beloved husband Pat during her time there on the Hill.

She had an accomplished career in accounting at a young age, working at a top 8 firm, then serving as Budget Director and Acting Controller of UMASS Medical School. She then raised her beautiful girls and worked with her husband at their family company serving as Chief Financial Officer and “Chairman of the Board” at Pat Hoey Productions.

Melanie found joy in hosting her large extended family, gathering 35+ people at Mount Hoey for Easters, Thanksgivings, Christmas Eves, and her favorite, Sunday Fundays. She took care of every detail with joy and happiness.

She loved spending her summers in York Beach, Maine and was a member of Cape Neddick Country Club for 36 years, where she met many of her dear friends. The country club flew the flag at half-mast the weekend of her passing in her honor. She and her family made wonderful memories in York at the beach, on the golf course, and just driving along Nubble Light admiring the ocean spray. She will be immensely missed by so many that loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Hoey family between 4 – 7 PM on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn, MA. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford St. N, Auburn, with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
