Obituary for Mary M. (Wynne) Connors

Mary M. (Wynne) Connors, 95, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2022 in the comfort of her home.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Robert A. “Bob” Connors, in 2014. Mary leaves several nieces throughout the country, including Kathy Connors of South Carolina, Sally Connors of Rhode Island, Rowena Morris and Joan L. Sheary of Florida, Roslyn Barry of Washington, DC, and Mary Frances Coakley of Worcester and her close, personal friend, Maria Lemieux and her family.

Mary was born and raised in Worcester, the only child of the late Robert P. Wynne and Marguerite A. (Hill) Wynne. After graduating from South High School in 1945, she followed in her mother’s footsteps and attended Saint Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. Mary was member of the graduating class of 1948. She became a registered nurse on January 25, 1949 and had an extensive career caring for her patients as private duty nurse for over twenty years.

On October 30, 1954, Mary and Bob were married in St. Peter’s Church in Worcester. During their marriage, they enjoyed many trips together to Montreal and Cape Cod. Throughout her life, she was an avid reader of the daily newspaper, including the Wall Street Journal. Mary enjoyed a simple life tending to her house plants, spending time bird-watching and a good cup of coffee. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury.

Mary will be remembered as a smart, quiet and compassionate woman of strong Catholic faith. She was always grateful for the care she was given, especially the love and kindness she received from Cynthia Boahene, Stella Asare and Tayla Burge from Family Tree Home Care and the compassion she received from her VNA hospice nurse, Giselle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 20 Summer Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545 (https://stmarysparish.org/weshare).

A calling hour will be held from 9 – 10 AM on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Mary’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury; with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester.
