Catherine M. “Kay” (Sullivan) Matthews, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023, with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward J. Matthews, in 1987, and their daughter Ann Lundy, in 2012.
She leaves her children: Edward J. Matthews and his wife Margaret, of Groton, Katherine M. Vanar and her husband James, of Laguna Hills, CA, Mary A. Bolger and her husband James, of Worcester, Nancy West, of Shrewsbury, and Robert D. Matthews and his wife Sarah, of Shrewsbury; her son-in-law James Lundy of Holden; her grandchildren: James Vanar, Brad Vanar, Matthew Swank, Gregory Swank, Katherine Carithers, Elizabeth Whitmore, Jillian Lundy, Brian Lundy, Robert Matthews, Emma Matthews, Christopher Matthews, Nicholas Matthews, Michael West, and John West; nine great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and daughter, Kay was also predeceased by her parents, John J. and Catherine M. (Creedon) Sullivan; siblings, John, Rita, and Betty; her son-in-law, Kenneth West.
She was born and raised in Boston attending Brighton High School and Boston University.
Kay was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; her greatest joy in life was her family. She was known for her impeccable style, and was loved by her many friends. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury and Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich. Kay was a longtime member of the Allen Harbor Yacht Club in Harwich Port, as well as numerous Women’s and Garden Clubs in the communities in which she lived over the years. She will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Matthews family from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will be held privately.
