Obituary for Robert A. "Bob" Folsom

Robert A. “Bob” Folsom, 88, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in Knollwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Worcester after an illness.

A faithful husband and father, he leaves his beloved wife of 65 years, Lorraine M. (Trinder) Folsom; their children: Gretchen M. Spencer and her husband Mark, of Holden, Diane M. Dattis and her husband Stephen of Worcester, Russell K. Folsom and his wife Susan, of North Oxford, and Elizabeth A. Belanger and her husband Ronald, of Laconia, NH; grandchildren: Tegan Folsom and his wife Melissa, of Quincy, Sydney Agnini and her husband Benjamin, of Edgewater, CO, Aaron Belanger, of North Grafton, Haley Belanger, Mia Dattis, and Emma Dattis, all of Worcester; along with several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Richard E. Folsom; and their parents, Russell E. and Rheta A. (Aitken) Folsom.

Bob was born in Chelsea, MA, and was raised and educated in Shrewsbury. He was a graduate of Major Howard W. Beal High School, Class of 1953, the year of the tornado. After high school Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country. In his younger years, Bob was a union carpenter, and later worked for the Shrewsbury Housing Authority for over 22 years, until retirement.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed golfing, softball, bowling, and refinishing furniture. He and his family loved spending time at their compound on Round Island at Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. Bob had a reputation for being able to fix anything. He was always available to help out his neighbors, friends and family with his problem solving, MacGyver-type skills. He would always say, "You can fix anything with a hammer and duct tape!"

Bob was very involved with sports: he loved coaching his children in Shrewsbury Little League Baseball, and Girls Softball. He also coached his son in hockey and was instrumental in founding the first Shrewsbury High School Boys Hockey Team.

Bob's family would like to sincerely thank the caring and dedicated staff at Knollwood Nursing and Rehab Center for their exceptional and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the activities department at Knollwood Nursing and Rehab Center, 87 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA 01606.
