Obituary for Norman H. "Norm" Vandal

Norman H. “Norm” Vandal, 96, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 27, 2023 at Shrewsbury Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Ann M. (Pescaro) Vandal, in 2007.

Norm is survived by his children, Robert Vandal and his wife Lori, of Auburn, and Marianne Boudreau and her husband Bob, of Shrewsbury; his grandchildren, Casey, Cameron, and Caitlin Boudreau, all of Shrewsbury; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Theresa Welch, Lucille Richardson, Joan Jones, and Hector Vandal, Jr.; and their parents, Hector Vandal, Sr. and Ledora (DeCoteau) Vandal.

Norm was born and raised in Worcester, and he attended Worcester Public Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged just before the war ended.

He married his beloved Ann on June 2, 1951 at St. Anne’s Church, Shrewsbury, where they settled to begin their family.

Norm held an extensive career with Mass Electric for 35 years, as a Lineman, and worked as a driver for several years after retiring for the Shrewsbury COA.

Norm was past Commander of the American Legion Quaranta Post 397, where he was a lifetime member. He was very proud of the Post 397 baseball team. They won a state championship, and they went to the American Legion World Series the following year.

He loved playing baseball, softball, football, and golf, but above all, his greatest love was his family and spending time with them. Norm’s grandchildren were everything to him; he never missed their sporting events.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Veteran’s Inc., 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Vandal family from 8:30 to 10:30 AM on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, with his funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 AM at St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
