Frank A.  Iovieno

SHREWSBURY-Frank Attilio Iovieno, 85, of Shrewsbury, died at home Saturday, November 1st, after a 30 year struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

His wife, Margaret Mildred (O’Brien) died in 2003.

He leaves his four treasured children, M. Susan Iovieno-Sunar and her husband Erdogan, Frank G. Iovieno and his wife Kathy Garner, Kathy LeBoeuf and her husband Raymond LeBoeuf, Jr., and Thomas Iovieno and his wife Penny; his beloved sister-in-law, Hazel O’Brien; his six grandchildren, Anthony and Mark Iovieno, Kate and Amanda LeBoeuf, and Sophia and Nikolas Iovieno; as well as two nephews and their families.

He was born in Agerola, Italy, son of the late Francisco and Mariantoinetta (Criscuolo) Iovieno, moving to America as a child of seven. He graduated from the Major Howard Beal Memorial High School, Shrewsbury and began a longtime career as a master mechanic and master gasfitter. He worked for several years before joining the US Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He returned to the US and resumed his mechanic’s trade, eventually becoming the owner & operator of Frank’s Gas & Repair Center on Route 9 in Shrewsbury. He retired after nearly 40 years as a fixture on Route 9 between Spag’s and White City Amusement Park.

Frank was a member of the Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus, the Frohsinn Club, the Victor Quaranta American Legion Post, and a former member and past president of the North Shore School PTA, all in Shrewsbury. He was also a longtime member of Saint Anne’s Parish, Shrewsbury. He loved his family dearly, enjoyed fishing, jokes, puns, and everything Italian, and always enjoyed a good roast beef.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, Nov. 5th from 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. His funeral will assemble at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 6th at 9 AM and a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM in Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
