Obituary for Albert A "Lovey" Garganigo

Albert A "Lovey" Garganigo
- Albert A. “Lovey” Garganigo, 99, lifelong Shrewsbury resident and business owner died Tuesday December 20, 2016 after being stricken at home.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Charles and Minnie (Morandi) Garganigo. He was raised on Baker Avenue in Shrewsbury and educated in the Shrewsbury Schools.

“Lovey” as he was known to most in the Shrewsbury community started the family business Lovey’s Towing and Recovery in 1938. He literally boarded the business up in 1942 when he was called to serve his country proudly during World War II with the United States Army Air Corp. When the war ended in 1945, he was excited to return to his home town of Shrewsbury and re-open his business. During those years he willingly maintained the ambulance that was used for the Town of Shrewsbury. Albert operated the business until he passed the day to day operations over to his son Thomas in 1966. For the past ten years he has kept himself busy and worked part time for his close friend, Joan at Tile Works in Shrewsbury.

He leaves his three children, Thomas P. Garganigo of Shrewsbury, Linda A. Gaulin of North Ft. Myers, Florida and Mary-Louise Carlson-Tuggle and her husband, Charles of North Ft. Myers, Florida; four grandchildren, Sheryl Lynn Johnson of Centerville, MA, Diana Garganigo-Carelli and her husband Richard of Hubbardston, James J. Gaulin of Largo, Florida and Ronald E. Carlson of Hollywood, California; five great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Derek Johnson both of Northbridge, Mikaela Andrea Lavallee and her husband David of Uxbridge and Kyle Garganigo Carelli and Christopher Garganigo Carelli both of Hubbardston; also survived by many nieces, nephews, and longtime friends, Joan Gorczynski, Peter Salvatore and Fran Sena .

Lovey entertained himself watching NASCAR racing. In his younger days he raced stock cars at the former Westborough Speedway. He also enjoyed the New England Patriots and taking a leisurely drive to CT to visit Foxwoods.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Albert’s family on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 4-7 pm in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St, Shrewsbury. His funeral will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 with a procession to Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester.
